I swear to God....Subaru...

Postby jetgirl » Mon Jul 05, 2010 10:00 pm

So when I first got it, Ian and Ashley warned me about keeping new tires on it, watching out for the transmission to fail around a certain mileage, for the body panels to ding easy... etc..

Of course none of those things have happened yet... Got new tires when the old ones went, changed the oil to synthetic and replaced fluids... blah blah blah....

The biggest problem... wheel bearings

Last month I noticed a loud wah wah wah wah sound coming from the rear near the exhaust. sounded like an exhaust leak but it got louder at certain speeds only if the car was moving. took it to the shop, they said it was wheel bearings. they replaced them for 200 bucks after our warranty (was gonna be 1200 for one bearing without it) and took about a week to get done. sound was gone...

ONE MONTH LATER....

the wah wahs have returned to the rear, now seems to be in both rear wheels, and only at very low speeds. sounds different more like im going over a bridge 100% of the time..... which is mind boggling. wouldn't bother me so much if i didnt have to drive 100 miles a day 5 days a week. you can only turn up the radio so far before losing your mind.

I cant afford to take off more time from work to have the car in the shop another week till matt gets his car back and i can take the truck to work.

cant wait to pay it off and sell it to some rich college kid who wants the flush hood and wingless trunk. subaru fails at life. with baby #2 coming i'll need a bigger car anyhow.

/end rant

I had a wheel fall off my tracker because of a bad wheel bearing, depending on the design they may need to be tightened after x amount of miles, but thats probably just 4x4's not awd cars... and suzuki makes things difficult so the tracker has all kinds of weird little quirks that require maintenance at random times of the year... get a station wagon, lol

>>>>>>>>>>_____________<<<<<<<<<<<<

with the help codys' brother we got the oil, front and rear diff fluid and about half the transmission fluid changed. all of which (save for the engine oil) were totally clean. refilled all the fluids and took it for a drive sunday afternoon and the car was still too cool to make the sound. it only happens after going highway speeds for 100 miles or hitting my subie vtec.

drove it to work today with no problems. drove it home and about the time we got to the neighborhood i noticed it lagging in acceleration somewhat.

so when I got home, finished dinner, I packed isaac in Cody's civic and drove around the block until it got too dark too see out of his black windows. which was about 45 minutes lol. Coming to a stop isnt a problem, so far my main issue is knowing when to shift up and then down (which is every 4 seconds in his car) so the first few rounds was all hysterically in first gear. :D The other issue is taking very slow 90 degree turns (after coming out of 2nd), I stalled during those every time because im trained to just let off the gas completely and coast through it, which i cant do at 1000 rpms apparently... XD

Isaac thought it was fun and wanted to go get a coke at the gas station but im saving "traffic conditions" for tomorrows stick driving session.

I learned how to drive in a 1978 bmw 320i that had a vacuum leak, not much fun at all.

definitely sounds like it needs performance exhaust, and while you are at it might as well put an STI motor and drivetrain in there... cant hurt right, we could make it rwd and turn it into a drift fubaru.

sti swap costs more than buying an sti. the only thing that my car shares with the sti is body parts, EVERYTHING under the aluminum is different. :(

i had to turn off the AWD one day when i got a flat..... never again, if i do RWD it will be in an e30 where it belongs.

it would be great if folks drifted in dirt but yeah....

hell, my e30 would drift from a dead stop as long as it was raining out....or if it was that stop sign at the bottom of the hill at school (coye knows what im talking about) had loose sand deposits there and if you floored it while turning the back end would just go on without you ;) totally unsafe car for the highway, so glad i have awd for the interstate. shit, I could probably tow a fully gutted track e30 with my subaru to drift events XD
